Fantastic Fencing

Congratulations to Ethan in Year 5 who recently came 3rd at the Welsh Youth Fencing Championships. His coach reported that Ethan performed superbly, defeating opponents much older than him and taking
bronze only after a narrow defeat to the defending champion. See if you can find him in the picture above. Well done Ethan!

Netball Champions

Many congratulations to our Year 6 netball team who won the Cardiff Rotary Club School's Netball Competition, held at Llanishen Leisure Centre. The team won 7 matches, including a very close final against Christ the King Primary where our determined team fought to a hard won victory. Well done to them all and to Miss Harries, their coach!

Fairtrade Fortnight 2010

To celebrate the end of the Fairtrade fortnight, Rhiwbina Primary have gone into a Fairtrade frenzy today! Helping us to think about why Fairtrade is so important, we held a fashion show, food stall, special assembly and lots of fairtrade activities in class as well as all coming to school wearing only fairtrade colours. You can see the Year 5 and 6 poetry competition winners at the Eisteddfod perform their poem with a Fairtrade link below...




Wenallt Wins Eisteddfod!

After a day filled with song, poetry and drama, Wenallt were crowned as champions of the Junior Eisteddfod for the fourth year running. Well done to them, and to everyone who took part with such enthusiasm and sense of fair play. Many congratulations also to our Bard, who earned the title this year after contributing an outstanding piece of writing on Nelson Mandela. The infants also held their own special celebrations, and admired the brilliant entries in the craft competitions. Thanks to everyone for making it such a special day of all things Welsh, and also for the delcious Welsh cakes we all filled up on at playtime!

Cardiff and Vale School's Chess Championship

Well done to our fabulous foursome who spent their Valentine's Day competing bravely in the Cardiff and Vale Schools Chess Championship. Thank you to them all for representing our school so well, and a special congratulations to Josh who achieved 3rd place in the Under 9's competition in his first ever competitive tournament. A magnificent accomplishment!

Helping Haiti - January 29th

Thank you so much for your support on our non-uniform day to raise money to help survivors of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. We raised a magnificent £1,300 which Mrs Harry will be paying into the DEC Appeal account.

Having fun at the Christmas Bazaar

Thanks to all of the Friends of Rhiwbina and their helpers for putting on such a brilliant fete on Saturday. There were loads of things to buy, games to play, food to eat and Father Christmas to visit in the Year 3 cloakroom, magically turned into a grotto by his little helpers on Friday night. A special well done to pupils in 4P who were selling some great products and services as part of their entrepreneurial project. You were all superstars! Thanks to everyone who came along to join in the fun...

Children in Need Day 2009

Thanks to all of the pupils, parents and staff who helped to make Pudsey Bear Day 2009 such a huge success. As usual, the children independently arranged all of the fundraising themselves, with stalls selling cakes, games, hairspraying, make up and much more. Lots of children, and even some of the teachers, came to school in their pyjamas, to help celebrate a day of fun and fundraising.

Julie Morgan MP visits our school

Julie Morgan, our local MP, came to visit school. She came to a school council meeting and was very impressed with the work of the council and with the representatives' commitment to improving our school.

Movie Makers
We have been creating amazing videos using DigiBlue cameras and software in 2D. You can see more like the one below in the 2D picture gallery!

What's Cooking?

The year 2 corridor is smelling ever better as Year 4 pupils are taking advantage of our brand new cookery club run by Miss Smith and funded by a large grant from the National Lottery. Click here to see them in action - watch out Jamie Oliver!

Look What We've Been Doing At Home!
As part of their topic "Faster, Stronger, Higher", as a home task two of our Year 5 pupils made this outstanding powerpoint presentation all about the marathon. Prepare to be amazed at their IT skills!
